Honeymoon to Kauai (part 1)

Nik and I just got back from our spectacular honeymoon to Kauai. It went by so fast and we are sad it is over, but so happy we went at this time. Any earlier and I would not have been feeling good, any later and I would be to big to do anything. We stayed in Poipu Beach at the Kiahuna Plantation Resort in the south part of the island. It is the sunniest part of the island and close to almost everything on the south side.

Day 1
We went for a run and relaxed on the beach. (Watch Nik's skin progression from whitey to coffee bean over the week).

Monk seals are native to the area and are endangered. There are only about 300 left in the world and about 30 that live off the coast of Kauai. The Hawaiian's do a nice job of protecting these creatures.

Day 2
We went for a hike on the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail. It was a 5 mile hike along the southern coast of the island. We walked along the sand dunes, sea cliffs, beaches and even had to trek along the Hyatt golf course for a little bit. We saw another monk seal resting on the beach for the day.

We had to take a detour through the golf course, being careful not to get hit by any golf balls.

After our hike, we went to the beach to relax and swim in the warm water. It was a wonderful day. That evening we went to the Spouting Horn. It is a natural blow hole in the rocks. When the water comes through it makes an interesting horn sound.
